Online Teaching Experiences

This MMC content demonstrates a systematic definition framework of online teaching. I have a general  meanwhile specific idea about the technologies and methods I could use to teach online. This is the most important thing I get from MMC content. Of course, within the framework, I also find that most of the technologies I have learned in MAET could be used in online teaching. The last thing I learned is the essential characteristics of online teaching, which include collaborative experience between students, integrated, sustainability, life-long learning skills, teacher involvement and online ethics& safety. Regarding with the characteristics, I notice that collaboration could also help students to learn online but not only in classroom.

I feel WebQuest, educational blog, podcast/ videocast and online research are most possible strategies I could use with my students. In the process of doing StAIR project in our course, I am thinking about use it as part of WebQuest, students could learn things better when they can sit down quietly and learn step by step with teacher-led based learning. Educational blog is an ideal method to teach, which will save a lot of trouble for students and teachers. Teachers could post anything relative to learning on blog to help students, but the problem is how to monitor students’ learning. As for videocast, I have tried to let my students to make video by themselves, most of them learn a lot in it. They learn how to create an idea, make a plan, assign work to each group member, cooperate with each other, edit and reflect. The last one is online research, which is a good way to teach culture or empower students to do culture project.

The harder technologies include LMS and Wiki. Definitely Wiki is a great tool for students to collaborate and share learning, but on the other hand wiki is hard to control for a teacher. LMS is too advanced for me to use currently, moreover I also don’t have so much time to manage it and design it.

I am currently working in two high schools, one of them is De La Salle High School. This is the wikipedia about our high school I add something about our Chinese program here.

Then I create my personal wiki. I write some general information about myself. Also change the color and theme of my wiki, send invitation to friends, add some extra link in the side bar. Also I add a music video in my side bar too.
