PC Maintenance and Security

I choose four tutorials within the PC Maintenance and Security workshop.

                            a. Uninstalling unwanted applications

I learn from this tutorial that I could go to the control panel and click the remove button to get rid of the duplicated software I don’t want to use. The information surprised me is it could be so easy to deal with the downloaded trash from Internet. Since I used to try to delete some software, but it always show the disc is writing protection so I couldn’t delete that software. But now I know how to do this easily and quickly.

                                       
                                                   b.  Explain cookies

  I learned that cookies are very small information can be stored into hard ware. And there are three kinds of cookies, they are “persistent cookies , session cookies, tracking cookies” Although most of cookies are harmless, but the tracking cookies can uncover your information to some advertisement company, and unless you delete the cookies from your computer otherwise the advertisement company will get your personal information.


c. Using pop-up blockers

 I  learned that  in both windows and firefox I could control the pop-ups, since I often feel busy when I open some pages but some pup-ups also jump out. Now I know I could go to my windows tools , and click them and chose pop-up blocker. For some websites I don’t want to see , I could also add the sites  to block. And there is also filter level, the best is to choose medium level, then some pop-ups will not jump out again after that. But if I choose  high level filter, then most of websites maybe blocked , or lose functions.

d. check PC maintenance checklist

I learned that the PC maintenance checklist is composed by several parts, including  check for Microsoft updates (manually too), update your security software, run disk degragmenter, update your most-often-used software (patches at least), run your clean-up utility clean all the junk in your computer you don’t need, and design back up sytem to protect from losing any documents, pictures and videos. The thing surprised me is that I don’t know the PC maintenance checklist is so long. I just think it will be very easy to maintenance, since those people help me to main my computer will only use a few hours without touching the computer, they just click on some buttons during the process then leave the computer alone there. But now I understand there are so many processes for me to maintenance my PC security.

Get Things Done

I use a daily assignment to organize my process. Each day except teaching in school , I have to prepare lesson plans, design power point and also grade students’ assignments and homework. So many things to finish everyday. So in order to get organized, I try to do a little thing everyday, but because this class is totally new to me, so it indeed costs a lot of time  and I have to spend more and more time in this course in order to keep pace with the task one by one. I use personal thinking pad and pencil to help me.

The first time for me to go through this process, I feel that is OK, since I used to learn two courses at the same time while I was teaching in school district. At that time, I taught in three schools, and also learned two courses online, I got almost every course in my first Master degree A. So now no matter how new and challenging the second Master is for me, I will still push myself to learn , to make up. So, my feeling is not important, the most important thing is I get the regulated work done on time, and also can learn more things.

I think this learning process helps me a lot. I learn at least three new things in one week, and could use one or two days to have a short relax between the successive tasks. And also most of the websites are meaningful and also make me think about use them in my teaching. So I think this process helps me to be organized, and to be more professional and informed with my teaching.

After three weeks, I almost get used to this process, so I like this process and don’t want to change. Only if there could be more time given to me to practice using some websites I feel very useful .

810 Blogging Lab

I think the difference between traditional webpages and blogs is who controls the publishment privilege. Of course, the traditional webpages will not allow you to write whatever you like and generate the page setting according to your personal willing. But blogs give you more freedom and creative space to design a visual  world completely belong to you. You could write, draw, upload, express yourself more than before. I have my personal blog already, and I realy like to write in my blog. Now I have an academic blog which is also my enjoy to write on it.

Social Networks

I have just been added into the LinkedIn MSU College of Education Group(I upload a screehshot for it.). And also join in the MSU EduTech Group(I uploaded a screenshot for it).I find these social networks are so connected, and I can find information more easily than before. Also feel this is a good way for me to get posted in terms of new things happen in MSU. I feel I get connected with a good professional community who will offer more information to me.

I am currently teaching in two high schools. The time for me to study is so limited. Because I have to teach 6 classes everyday, there are always some meetings to attend and paperworks need to be read and signed. So I usually will get tired when I finish working, but now I know even though I sit at home, I could still learn things to prompt my teaching skills and  learn latest technology to help my students learn better.

I really enjoy to find this good and easy way to better my learning and teaching.\
